In Quynh Long commune, Quynh Luu district, there are 85 boats of total 174 fishing vehicles functioning as purse seiners.
Not only provide much higher economic benefits in comparison with other techniques, purse seiners also have additional advantages such as bigger boat, higher capacity, better power of more than 200CV, modern facility equipped, the ease to get offshore - especially the borderline area. Therefore, admiralty and mastering fishing ground receive great attention. Moreover, the use of purse seiner gradually restricts the destructive exploitation of fisheries resources.
Nguyen Van Manh, a fisher in Phu Lien hamlet, said: “Purse seiner is considered to be an environmental non-destructive mean of sein because neither chemical nor explosion is used, and with its large net line, small fishes are able to escape, so it does not exhaust fisheries resources”.
This fishing technique requires high-tech, that’s why purse seiners are often equipped with advanced technological development like accompanying with traditional mean such as light fishing, or using detector to catch a fish aggregation before trawling in order to predict the capacity and productivity.
Currently, in regions such as Quynh Nghia, Tien Thuy, Quynh Long, along with traditional fishing means such as light-attractor fishing, a significant number of fishers have started to employ purse seine to their business.
