According to American scientists’ research, pineapple is a tropical crop with a special photosynthetic mechanism being able to transform light energy into chemical energy.

This makes pineapple’s water consumption account for only 20% of that of other crops, thus adaptable to the extremely drought conditions and growable in arid areas and steep hills.

When supplied with enough water, pineapple will grow with high productivity and good quality. In recent years, many households in Quynh Chau, Quynh Thang, Tan Thang, Tan Son have practiced intercropping pineapple with the fruit trees such as peach, orange, longan, litchi, etc.

The two crops can support each other when pineapple helps moisturize the roots, fruit trees help shade the top of  the trees.

Western region of Quynh Luu district including mountainous communes Quynh Chau, Quynh Tam, Tan Son, Quynh Thang, Tan Thang have a large natural soil area, steep mountainous terrain, arid land and their water resources deeply depends on the rain.

With the diligent and dynamic characteristics of local farmers, many new plant varieties have been grown on trial and mass such as sugar cane, vetiver grass, gac fruit,  passion-fruit, etc.

Until now, pineapple is still considered the most appropriate option for soil and climate conditions of the planted area of over 700 hectares. With an annual productivity of over 10,000 tons, pinaapple earns approximately 100 billion VND.
